Object Transaction Service for Orbix IONA Technologies and Groupe
Bull have announced the availability of Bull's object transaction service (OTS)
on IONA's Orbix, one of the leading CORBA-conformant object request brokers
(ORBs). The announcement brings sophisticated enterprise-wide distributed
transactions to organizations, enabling companies to develop applications that
require reliable delivery of data and information, such as on-line reservation
systems. 
IONA Technologies Brings Orbix to
Smalltalk Developers IONA Technologies has announced that its
leading object request broker (ORB) Orbix is now available for Smalltalk
developers. Orbix/Smalltalk, which is available immediately, enables Smalltalk
developers to take advantage of the power and flexibility of Orbix in developing
distributed applications running on over fifteen different platforms.

InContext Corp. [TSE:INI] has announced an alliance with Versant Object
Technology Corp. [NASDAQ:VSNT] to combine InContext's World Wide Web site
management technology with InContext's object database management system.
The companies said new products based on InContext's
WebAnalyzer and SiteCommand software and Release 5.0, the database software from
Menlo Park, California-based Versant, will provide enterprise Web management on
multiple platforms. Both companies will be selling the cooperatively developed
software. On the World Wide Web, InContext is at http://www.incontext.com and
Versant is at http://www.versant.com .
Oracle Licences Visigenic's Object
Technologies Oracle and Visigenic Software, Inc. announced that
Oracle has licensed Visigenic's object technologies for use within Network
Computing Architecture. The agreement extends Oracle's commitment to objects,
open Internet standards, and Java technologies, and will benefit Oracle
customers and developers by expanding the tools available to build application
cartridges using Java and C++. In addition, this agreement further enhances
Oracle's strategy to combine HTTP and IIOP for Internet communications.

that now, more than ever, we must be thinking ahead and reacting quickly to the
market's needs.
SUNNYVALE, Calif., - January 21, 1997 - ParcPlace-Digitalk,
Inc. (Nasdaq: PARQ) today announced results for its fiscal third quarter, ended
December 31, 1996. For the quarter, revenue was $8.1 million compared to $13.6
million in the third quarter of fiscal 1996, a decrease of 40 percent. The
company had a net loss of $6.9 million for the quarter compared to a net profit
of $0.1 million for the third quarter of fiscal 1996. Included in the current
quarter's results were a $2.2 million restructuring charge and a $0.6 million
acquired research and development charge resulting from the acquisition of
Polymorphic Software, Inc. in October 1996. Other expenses included a charge of
$0.4 million incurred in connection with the pending settlement of a securities
class action lawsuit. Net loss per share for the quarter was $0.59 compared to
net income per share of $0.01 in the third quarter of fiscal 1996. Excluding the
onetime charges of $3.2 million as detailed above, the company had a net
loss of $3.7 million with net loss per share of $0.31 in the quarter. | |
